Credit Bureaus - Requesting your Report |

The Credit Bureau takes the position that your credit file is your responsibility. In order to ensure that it is accurate it is necessary to request a copy (from both credit bureaus) and make sure that everything is up to date. Equifax PO Box 190, Station Jean-Talon Montreal, Quebec H1S 2Z2 Telephone: 1-800-465-7166 Hours: 8am-5pm (Eastern Time) Fax: 1(514)355-8502 http://www.equifax.com/EFX_Canada/consumer_information_centre/ownreport_e.html
Trans Union of Canada PO Box 338, L.C.D.I. Hamilton, Ontario L8L 7W2 Telephone: 1-800-663-9980 Fax: 1-866-465-2555 https://www.tuscores.ca/content/page.jsp?id=/tucanada/common/data/en_CA/ps/orderbymail.xml&locale=en_CA# It is necessary to request a copy of your credit bureau report in order to ensure that the information it contains is accurate and all necessary changes have been made. There are a few options available to request your credit bureau: By Phone: If you call the 1-800 number listed above it will walk you through the steps to request your credit file to be sent to you by mail. There is an option to provide the information by phone to eliminate a mail request. Unfortunately, this phone request system does not work for a lot of people. If it does not work, you will need to use one of the other two options. By Internet: You can request a copy of your report online. This is a more immediate way to receive your report. The drawback to this method is that they will charge you for access to your report. They also require a credit card to process the request. By Mail: This is probably the most effective (and cost efficient) method of requesting your report. When you send a request by mail you must send a photocopy of two pieces of ID including a proof of address along with your request. (Example: Driver’s License, gas, phone, electricity or cable bill, Health Card, SIN Card, Birth Certificate, etc.) They will send you a copy of your credit bureau along with a form that you can fill out and return to them if corrections are necessary. You can download a form to fill out and send in for this request from each of the credit bureau websites. The location of these forms is listed above in the address section.
Once you receive a copy of your bureau report you want to check to make sure that it is accurate. The two main things you want to check are that they have recorded your discharge or full performance and that all debts are showing up “Included in bankruptcy” or “Included in proposal” and are not showing as outstanding. If there are any problems we can assist you with sending in a request to update your report. In order for us to do this we require the following information: A copy of the Request to Update form that will be attached to the back of the credit report. You will need to fill out the top of this form with your personal information and sign and date the bottom of the request. We require your current address, past address if you have lived at your current address for less than two years, and your birth date. (This should be on the Request to Update Form). A photocopy of the two pieces of ID used to request the initial report. A copy of the report sent to you from the credit bureau.
Once we have this information we will be able to send in a request to the credit bureau to update your credit report. The credit bureau should send you confirmation of these changes. They do not confirm anything with our office. It is up to you to ensure you receive these changes. If you do not receive confirmation of changes within a few weeks to a month of the request you will need to contact the Credit Bureau and ensure that the request has been processed and the changes have been made. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE APPLYING FOR CREDIT TO FIND OUT THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR REPORT. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO ENSURE YOUR CREDIT REPORT HAS BEEN UPDATED PROPERLY!! WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR INACCURACIES IN YOUR CREDIT REPORT.
